Daily Reflection
Today i did research on more of the question that were asked after i presented in the library. One of the questions that I researched was, Is Block Island dangerous? I found alot of information on the link here. I discovered that block island is not a dangerous place in terms of landforms but dangerous in the way of crimes. The Rhode Island Monthly Magazine had done a rating of all of the towns in Rhode Island. They had ranked Block Islands town of New Shoreham 20 out of 39 overall. They had recieved a ranking of 20 for Health, and 7 for environment. What really threw off their average was their ranking for saftey. They had recieved a 33 out of 39 for their safety. These numbers are based on year-round population but the majority of the reported vahicle accidents and crimes occur during the summer when their population increases greatly. The only other thing i discovered on this topic was that one of Block Islands beaches, the Mohegan Bluffs Beach lays right beneath the actual Mohegan Bluffs. I learned that after going there many times and not thinking about this at all, the Mohegan Bluffs are a very dangerous feature of block island and have caused harm and danger to many who chose to rest on their beach. One story was about a 7 year old boy who had been playing underneath the bluffs one day and all of a sudden out of no where, part of the bluffs had collapsed and fallen on him. This had surprised me alot. Another article i found explained how the bluffs have this part you can slide down into a mud pit and one boy had actually fractured his leg in three places after going down it. The last thing it said about the bluffs was that some visitors had actually been resting on the beach and seen a piece of the towering bluffs fall to the ground. I found all of this information on this website. So the answer to the question, Is Block Island dangerous? can be answer...for the most part no, but stay away from the bluffs.
